NASA Tweets In Space : Twitter reached in space

We all know how popular Twitter is; it is one of the most popular websites in the world. However, the microblogging service has now made it into space as an American astronaut from NASA has been sending Tweets for the first time from the International Space Station.

He tweeted that this was the first live Tweet from space and more will follow shortly. Tweets had been made before, but they had to go via groundcrew, but there is now a wireless Internet connection on the Space Station so was able to send them direct.

This latest development was thanks to a recent software upgrade; this now allows the crew to access to a computer on earth directly without the need from help from NASA ground crew. This is just the latest communications service for the astronauts, they were already able to send e-mails, phone calls via the Internet as well as videoconferencing.

It is not just the American crew with twitter accounts, two men from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency also has accounts and will be able to send messages on Twitter. We now wait to see if the two Russian cosmonauts will be allowed to start Twittering.

According to the economictimes, if the U.S. astronauts think that they can now abuse the fact that they have Internet onboard the space station, then they are in for a shock. NASA has said that they will have to follow the same guidelines as other North American Government workers
